Understanding AI

Learn the types of AI so you can choose your fights.

A small nameplate above an AI's head tells you it isn't a player. Once you know what to look for, you can spot encounters before they spot you.

  • Civilian, bandit, and hunter AI: the easiest. Civilians hang around water wells, bandits around bus stops (barricades on Livonia), and hunters around hunting stands. Good for learning how AI behaves.
  • Roaming AI: groups of 1 to 3 that travel the map and loot as they go. They're lootable, and ones that live long enough can carry a full kit.
  • Military AI: found at military locations, better equipped, and scaled to the area's loot tier. A T4 zone is far more dangerous than a T1 zone.
  • High-tier AI (T5+): found in our custom high-tier zones, and smart and very accurate. Bring your best.
  • Special AI: Lunatics, Military Outcasts, and Reapers hold their own designated areas on Chernarus, and Livonia's Reapers guard the endgame Livonia Bunker.

Heli crashes usually have 1 to 2 AI guarding them, and AI don't attack zombies on Chernarus or Livonia. Hordes from The Dark Horde (Chernarus only) and mutant creatures are tougher still, so scout first, bring extra ammo and medical supplies, and go with a squad. Don't despawn AI on purpose or share horde locations, since both break the rules.
